Beauty and the beast

Pupils from Smithills School presented Disney’s Beauty and the Beast musical from Monday, November 25th, to Wednesday, November 27th. A much-loved family favourite, this magical fairytale musical features many well-known and much-loved songs, including ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Tale as Old as Time’. The cast also features popular characters, including Mrs Potts, Lumiere, and Cosgworth, all made famous by the 1991 animated film. 

Grace Pearce, Year 11 pupil, who plays Belle, states ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed taking the leading role this year, I have had lots of lines and songs to learn but we have all worked together to support each other’. Rowan Beswick, a Year 11 pupil, takes the lead as the Beast, Rowan is usually found in the lighting box, but this year he has decided to take a role on stage. 

 

Year 10 Pupil, Nathan Wood, states ‘this year I have thoroughly enjoyed leading on designing and planning the stage lights for this production’ whilst Year 9 and Year 10 pupils, Aaliyah Patel and Aqsa Patel, have been busy planning and organising all the props and set backstage.

Ella Sadikeen, a Year 11 pupil, took charge of choreography this year, bringing all the wonderful songs to life with lots of exciting choreography. Andy Milthorpe, Head of Faculty for Performing Arts and PE, states, ‘We give our pupils a wide range of opportunities within the performing arts each academic year. I am always exceptionally proud of every pupil that takes a leading role both on and off stage.’
