Student Council

Our vision is for an active, approachable Student Council, who bridge the gap between students and staff. We want our fellow pupils to trust us to accomplish what they see as important tasks.

We will achieve this by consulting as many students from our own year groups as possible to ensure what we undertake is seen as a priority for the majority of pupils. We will do this by being visible, though assemblies, meetings and identifying items, such as badges, and by ensuring we are approachable, committed and trustworthy.

Over the last four years, we have:

  • Interviewed for the new Headteacher
  • Organised annual anti-bullying campaigns and assemblies
  • Raised more than £2000 for different charities, including Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day, Sports Relief and Children in Need
  • Organised the annual Year 11 Prom
  • Visited primary schools to meet potential new pupils
  • Worked on changing the school setting system with SLT
  • Proposed and conducted surveys on a new school uniform
  • Worked with the school Finance Manager to redesign the canteens and menus

This year, our priorities are:

  • To embed our school values
  • To work on school theme days
  • Develop student leadership within all aspects of Smithills School

Got an idea about how to improve the school? Get involved by:

  • Asking one of the Student Council, House Council Members or Form Reps
  • Speaking to your Form Rep during Form time
  • Speaking to your  Head Boy, Girl or Senior Prefects
  • Completing all questionnaires and surveys that are distributed
