BBC 500 Words Competition

Pupils who entered the BBC 500 words in the age 10-13 category, also submitted their stories to us, and just like the BBC’s ambition and aims, we too managed to get our pupils excited about reading and writing, no matter what their ability.

It was wonderful to see so many pupils along with their family members enjoying the stories, and we were honoured to have Bolton comedian and past pupil Dave Spikey judging, entertaining and presenting the awards.

Out of over 30 entries, we had a shortlist of six including Grace Reddyhough, Qurat Ahmed and Shayaan Hussain.

The WINNER was Katie Powell with a story called Hope, a story of hope and friendship among refugees.

Special Merit Award went to Luke Gallagher who’s story ‘It was only just a nightmare’ was really gripping, and probably why I didn’t sleep so well afterwards.

Special Library Award went to Aia Banchi with a beautifully crafted story called The Birds, a true fairy tale and beautifully constructed.

We’re so proud of all our entrants, who have not only accomplished something special, but who have worked really hard and enjoyed it!

The shortlisted and winning stories are on display in the library.

We will be producing a booklet of all the stories to share in the Library in the very near future.
