The Transitiion Process

An Introduction to the Transition Process

At Smithills School our aim is to ensure that the transition from primary school to our Year 7 is a positive and exciting one.

We understand that you want the best continuity and progress for your child; we too want the best for our new students in all areas of their new school life. The transition programme for Year 6 ‘bridges the gap’ between Key Stage 2 and 3, and includes primary visits from the core team, an induction day in school which takes place Tuesday 5 July, 8.45am-3.45pm and a welcome evening for parents and carers on Monday 27 June 6pm-7pm. The House system ensures that the Smithills School staff are experts in supporting the transition to secondary school in both pastoral and academic areas.

The Transition Team, including Mr Pavey, Assistant Headteacher, are focused on ensuring that all information on your son or daughter is gathered and that the change from primary to secondary school is a smooth and personalised process. We also have a team of pupils of varying ages who have volunteered as Primary Leaders and take part in Primary Liaison /Transition work, in order to give the Year 6 pupils the experience of mixing with different age groups as a bridge to our vertical tutoring system.

We will be in touch to confirm the dates of the events mentioned above, and we look forward to meeting you and your child during the transition programme.
