In order for pupils to progress and achieve their academic potential, it is important that they are happy and confident. At Smithills, we provide a safe and harmonious environment for all our young people.
Incidents of bullying are extremely rare (Ofsted 2012), but when it occurs it is identified, challenged and positive steps are taken to support our policy of zero tolerance. We view any incident of bullying as a very serious issue. We make every effort to ensure that bullies are dealt with appropriately.
All staff are trained in how to deal with incidents of bullying. The appropriate Head of House and their Intervention Officer are the main port of call for advice and support for pupils and parents. Pupils can report any concerns to our school safeguarding officer, confidentially, using the schools SHARP e-mailing reporting system. The information is then picked up by staff in school and dealt with appropriately.
