As a Historian you will become skilled at answering questions, sometimes awkward ones; as you have learned not to take everything at face value. You will have developed empathy and understanding, and you will be able to put your case forward and argue it well. There are so many careers that require these skills and the hundreds of others that you learn throigh the study of History.
It is impossible to list all the kinds of careers History will open up for you, but it certainly doesn't mean you have to work in a museum. As a guide many people you may have heard of have a degree in History; Dermott Murnaghan, journalist, David Sainsbury, Chairman of Sainsbury's, Diane Abbott, MP and broadcaster. You can also count the likes of Melvin Bragg, Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop, Monty Python's Michael Palin, Sacha Baron Cohen (AKA Ali G)the journalist and presenter Louis Theroux, Jonathan Ross, John Prescott, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Al Murray and Cold Play's Chris Martin among other history graduates!
